Hello,

I wanted to know if anyone else - owning the E-MU Xboard - is encountering problems with latency. I have done absolutely all that I could think of, to get rid of the latency, buit nothing has really helped. I can't function at all - with this situation being as it is - and may have to return the unit for refund.

Okay, let's start from scratch here.

If you are having a problem like this you should include the platform you are on (PC or Mac), the software you are using, if a laptop or desktop computer is giving you trouble and if it has ever worked at any point in the past or if this has been a problem since you opened the box.

When you say 'absolutely all (you) could think of' does that include going to the Emu web site and downloading the lastest drivers, then installing them?

IME latency issues are always a driver problem. if we're talking about soft synths though, that's another thing all together.

Hey,

I apologize for the elapased time - between my last posting and now, but I had really been quite busy. I also didn't mean to be as vague as I was, on my initial post.

What I had (very frequently) experienced was very staticy sounding notes, and problems with latency. I have Reason 3.0 on my computer, as well as CubaseLE. Any voice that was called up in Reason would sound just fine - but no more than three at a time. If I attempted to add a fourth note it would not sound unless I released a finger from one of the other three. No latency there, however. On the other hand, ProteusX LE (coupled with CubaseLE) would play all of the notes (whether they were 3,5 or 6 at a time) but with great static & latency. I took the unit back to GC and picked up the M-Audio 61ES controller. It was all right, but nowhere near the Xboard, IMO. So, I took that one back, today, and got the E-MU Xboard 49 again.

This unit, now, works flawlessly with Reason; playing all notes simultaneously played - and with no latency. The ProteusX LE software situation is even worse now than it was before. I say that because I can't even get into it. When I attempt to access it, here is what I get:
.......................................................................................................
ProteusX LE
The streaming engine could not be initialized.
There was a problem initializing the streaming engine. This is most likely caused by a driver version mismatch.
.......................................................................................................

I don't know the reason for this, as I have not changed or added anything since returning the other Xboard. Any ideas?

Your completely looking at this problem the wrong way. Latency has absolutly nothing to do with your controller or its driver, it does have everything to do with your computer and sound card/soundcard driver.

What sound card are you using? What are your computer specs? What driver are you using with your sound card?

Those are the things you should be looking at, not your controller.

If you want low latency here is how it should be set up:

Buffers should be set at the lowest possible setting (256/512) to get good audio (no pops or crackles). This will be found in your sound cards control panel

Under cubases 'windows midi' paine, check "use system timestamp"

Make sure u are using the ASIO driver for your soundcard

Altitude909,

Thanks for responding. My computer is an HP Athlon 4200/64x2 dual core processor with 2Gigs of Ram. I am using the lexicon Omega Audio Interface as my soundcard, and the appropriate ASIO driver for same. I do have the buffers set at the lowest possible setting, and (as stated earlier) am having absolutely no problem, now, working in Reason.

I did want to take advantage of the ProteusX LE, which came bundled with my E-MU Xboard controller. There were some embedded sounds that I really liked and, besides, I want to feel that I am getting all that my money paid for. I feel that the problem lies within a very simplistic area, and that there's a very easy fix for what I am experiencing. I just don't know what it is.

try the use "system timestamp" under the windows midi devices in cubase, that should fix it

Thanks much. I will try that just as soon as I return home.

EMU XBOARD 49 - logic pro 8

Hey there, :)

i have a HUGE issue and its becoming extremely irritating nevermind frustrating.
I have recently bought an EMU Xboard49 to work through a desktop MacOSX that I have bought.

On it, i have logic pro 8 set up and need some training through that but am learning more and more about things.

Anyway, i cannot get the software instrument to play through logic, I've added an instrument track (software instrument) and selected the I/O above the Output 1-2 and clicked on ES1-Synthesizer.

It should be playing through logic , but no noise whatsoever is being made when i play the board- highly frustrating as I really need this for my music recording and bought it specifically for this reason.

Could somebody PLEASE tell me what I'm not doing or doing wrong, whether the software/driver installation is okay (I have installed numerous times and it has said that the installation has been successful.) I don't have proteus X installed as Mac doesnt support it and i have also downloaded core audioSDK1.4.3 as i though that maybve i needed to update driver. But still no sound!!

Could some one please get this problem sorted asap as im unsure of what else to do!! :(

Thank you!
Danni.
