I would assume it does have a sitar, and it lists for $1300.

Seems to have good reviews.

But Im no expert.

It never listed for $1300. The highest I've seen them was $699.

It's OK I guess... I wasn't that impressed with it though.

It's baically just a proteus with a keyboard. I have a proteus and the sounds are pretty nice, but that keyboard just seems kind of shitty to me. I'd go somewhere and try it out before buying it if you can.

The build quality is not the best because Emu had them built in China, that is why they dropped the price.
It is a Proteus with a keyboard and takes the expansion roms which are better soundsets.

Honestly, at that price range you could spend your money on better quality stuff. All the Proteus keyboard range (MoPhat, PK, whatever) is cheap feeling, flimsy, and I don't care for the sounds (but that can be a personal thing). I am not a big fan of basic ROMplers in general. They seem too limiting and get dated real quick. And in the case of the E-Mus, the only thing missing are the build-in speakers :p

Heck, I'd rather buy a softsynth for that price. At that range you might also want to look at Dave Smith Evolver (that thing is so simple, yet so powerful at the same time, it's amazing, really), that is if you already have a keyboard controller. If you're looking for keyboards, I'd look at the Korg ms2000. Hell even the microKorg at $400 has better build quality and built-in sound set, not to mention a more flexible architecture/better programmability than the E-Mu.

Regarding the reviews, sometimes I wonder who these guys are that write the reviews, and if they have actually played anything other than grooveboxes, and what kinds of perks they get from those companies to write favorable reviews. There is nothing about the E-MU ROMplers that would be worth spending the money on. Now, E-MU samplers maybe a different story, as some people swear by their filters, but even then there are better options in most cases IMO.

The best thing is, don't listen to us. Go to a store, and try it out for yourself... just be careful not to break any knobs or keys on it. I am not kidding.

haha ya i agree wit the guy above...i think what would be better is to get a midi controller and get that perticualar sound module if u love it to death...other then that the keyboards are cheap

MS2000s & MicroKorgs ain't in the same league
as a PK-6 or MK-6. Different beasts of burden, you know?
<I didn't gather that NDW was checking for synths, but affordable romplers...>

For a new board, especially just getting wet, those EMU joints ain't bad for the price. All that's missing is a built-in sequencer. The sounds are useable, and the cards the boards can take can make it a pretty good deal for the price, especially if EMU is still giving 1 or 2 away with the purchase of either of those boards...

Now, NDW, if you're spending 500 bitches on used gear I might suggest something like the good ol' Korg M1 or Yamaha SY77, especially if you aren't using a hardware or software sequencer... and I found a roland xv5050 for $600 off-the-floor (from sweetwater on ebay several months ago). You can argue about the sundset all you want, but again, those sounds, along with a roland card or two is a cheap a powerful way to get a decent Tone Generator for a cool price. Oh yeah, and the XV2020 new for $600 ain't all that bad, either (although you'll need to pick up a cheap midi controller, too).

But what the fuck do I know, I'm just a dj...
