E-mu & PatchMix Software?

Hi,

I'm thinking about buying the E-mu 1212m (possibly the 0404), and was wondering if installing the included PatchMix DSP software is necessary? Also, is there even an option to customize your install? Or are the drivers and PatchMix software on separate CDs?

I will mainly be using this interface to hook up my active monitors, and I will only be recording vocals (which I want to record in another program anyways).

Patchmix is absolutely necessary. Even the absolute dead simplest playback and recording, you have to use the routing in Patchmix to do so. Patchmix routes everything. And Patchmix is contained within drivers.
