Have any of you seen the latest installment in the saga that is the Apple/Emagic buy-out? If you go to www.emagic.de you can read about how you can save up to $1,302 on a G4 Mac of Powerbook when you buy a Mac before the 30th of Sept.
Now let my complaining begin….
First of all, that whopping $1,302 savings breaks-down as such…
- $109 for the crossgrading license from PC to Mac
- Up to $500 off the price of one of their slick flat panel monitors
- You can choose one piece of emagic software for up to $399 for free.
- You get the Mac manual free saving you $44.
- And finally you save $250 off the price of any of the G4 or Powerbook machines.
Pardon me if I do not stop the presses to roll out the praises for emagic/Apple on this one. I mean, I do not have a degree in marketing nor consumer psychology… but actually printing “You save $44 off the price of the manual”. What kind of arrogant, ridicules, nickel & dime your customers to death, kind of mentality would possess someone to actually include the manual and crossover license from PC to Mac into the breakdown of savings for this new “offer”? I know that it is standard practice to make things cost $19.99 as opposed to $20.00 just so that we don’t have that round 20 staring us in the face, when in reality it is only 1 penny difference, but we are all dealing with at least somewhat intelligent people here and I for one am insulted that they would actually publish such a ridicules thing.
With regards to the flat panel… they can kiss my angry ass. Not because I don’t want one. I think they are gorgeous pieces of technology that I would love to own. But Apple has been running the exact same offer to anyone (not just PC to Mac crossover users for Logic Audio) for at least a month. Yet they include it in the “Big Savings” plan for us poor Logic Audio PC users. FUCK OFF!!!
Now, talking about giving away a free piece of Emagic software… we all already have Logic otherwise this would not apply to us… the only other pieces of semi-serious recording software that emagic offer is the EXS24 and perhaps WaveburnerPro. However anyone that is going to be serious enough about eMagic to be changing platforms completely just to stay with that software already has one of if not both of these programs.
Anyway… just to clear some of the smoke that “e-m’apple” tried to kick up but I am sure you all see anyway, here is a real breakdown of your savings.
$250 off a machine that is already overpriced.
Short list huh?!?!?
Pathetic.
