Dynaudio Bm5a's (without a sub) or Event ASP6's?

So, I don't want to spend more than $1000 on new monitors, and I am torn between these two monitor choices (especially after hearing them and researching them)

It seems the Event's sound a little sweeter, but the Dynaudio's are more honest. Also, for some reason I am completely opposed to buying a sub. I do 90% tracking of dynamic rock stuff- so not much mixing or mastering. The studio is bedroom sized because it is in a 10x15 bedroom, however the walls are well treated.

Your picks if you were in my shoes?

Thanks

I would get the ASP8s.They can be found a lot of places under $1000 and you will never have to worry about a sub with these. I think they are more accurate across the range than the Dynaudios (Which do have a very precise mid-range however).

The ASP8s do a far better job on pan placement and revealing reverb, delays and chorus than the Dynaudios. I have used both and although I would like to check my mix on the Dyns. I would rather work the long hours on the ASP8s.

Most of my experience is with the Dynaudio BM-6 and BM-15's, but I would have to say the opposite of what Middleman said. I found that the Dynaudio's were far more detailed when it came to stereo imaging, reverb, and other fx etc... than even the ASP8's. Not only that, but the Dynaudio's actually have at least as much accurate and usable low frequencies as the larger ASP8's. They are also capable of a very surprising amount of volume that maintains the same feel at varying volumes whereas the Events seem to change quite a bit at different volumes. One of the biggest advantages I have found though is that with the Dynaudio's, listening fatigue is greatly reduced and the power amps sound pretty nice as well. For the purposes of this post, I am trying to relate my experience with the BM6's as opposed to the BM15's, but I do not have much real world experience with the BM5's.

Thanks for the post's Middle and Xstatic...
I originally went for the asp8's- but the room is bedroom sized, and my daw is against the wall- so I think they are too much in that situation.

Anyone else have some testemony?

I have them in a room which is 11x 12 but heavily bass trapped. If your room is smaller or even close without traps, you made a good call.

I see-

As far as bass traps, the room has:

4 auralex bass traps in the corner, along with 3 Real Traps on the walls.

Does this sound pretty similar to your setup Middleman?

I like my bm5a's. I find they are very bright. I find my mixes are translating a little dark to other sytems. But I can hear everything. It's not like they pound you in the chest w/ the low end but you can hear what's going on down there. I'm still learning them so YMMV but that's w/ any monitoring systems, there's the learning curve.

I use 4 of the GIK traps. 2 are cutting the corners on the walls behind the monitors. The other two are at the first reflection point of the monitors. I am going to get 3 more. 2 for the back corners and one for the ceiling.

I removed all the auralex out of the room after scoping things. They tend to reduce midrange which was no so much the problem in my room. Bass build up is the biggest challenge. I have other items in the room that absorb the midrange i.e. a bookcase full of recording books on the back wall. I found there is a nice balance in the room right now with a great sweet spot about 5 feet out from the monitors. Midrange detail has improved along with installing the traps so there is some benefit from the traps above 200HZ which I am getting.

Things still do not scope entirely flat but the huge dips and bumps under 200Hz are much better.
