Dynaudio BM 5A vs. Event ASP8

Dynaudio BM 5A = $999.97/pair
Event ASP8 = $1,299.94/pair

If you could choose between one or the other, to see in a basic local studio, which would it be?

Remember, the fact that the Event's cost a little more and might have a higher resale value doesn't matter to me. Quality first...

To SEE in a studio (definitely the Events, they are bigger and shinier) or to HEAR?

Both of them are quality monitors so either one may suit you well. They do sound different, so you'll have to decide which sound works best for your needs (keeping in mind the room that you will be listening to them in).

The Events are bigger speakers and have more low-end to them. But if you will be mixing in a small room, the Dynaudio's might be better for you.

They are both very good, and are really at the same level in terms of quality. Like I said they do sound different, and everyone will have a preference for one or the other depending on their tastes and their listening environment. The best thing you could do would be to listen to them both and pick the ones your ears like the best.

Personally, I did that same comparison about a year or two ago (and also compared the Mackie's and new Yamaha's just for kicks). To my ears, I liked the Events better, and felt they fit better for my needs, so that's what I bought, and haven't regretted them for a second.

And as far as the price difference goes... I was able to get them (new) for $999 as well... from a Guitar Center no less (they weren't happy about it, but I told them that's what I could get it for if I went somewhere else and they matched the price). Check around for prices, not just their advertised price.
