Dynamics and condensers are like the yin and yang of microphones. Do you *have* to have a condenser? No. It's like asking, "I have a Strat. Do I *have* to have a Les Paul?" The real point is that these are both basic tools used for recording. You can't learn to use tools that you don't have. So my answer is- no, but you should. And furthermore, you *should* own a large diaphragm condenser and a pair of identical small diaphragm condensers, so you can learn how to do stereo recording. Will there be a huge difference in quality? Maybe, but that's irrelevent. A really good dynamic is better than a really bad condenser, and vice versa. If you switch from a Strat to a Les Paul, will there be a huge difference in quality? No. Just a huge difference. Note this, though- a really good dynamic is cheaper than a really good condenser.-Richie
