Dynamic mic & Phantom Power?

Hi everyone,

Just a quick question. Does it hurt a dynamic mic to plug it into a preamp with phantom power? I've heard that it doesn't, but before I go and try it I'd rather hear what you guys have to say. I'd really rather not blow up an SM-57 if I can help it! Thanks a lot.

Phantom power won't harm a dynamic mic as long as the cable is wired correctly (pin 1=ground/ pin 2=hot/ pin 3=return). It can damage SOME older ribbon mics but not all.

Summary: phantom power does nothing to non-powered mics, but NEVER plug-in or un-plug ANY mic while phantom power is on!
