Hi
I've got a DX7 that I love that has begun having problems. Volume of sounds has drastically been reduced and is distorted. Playing loudly on keys use to bring it back to normal but not anymore. Battery indicator shows 3.4 volts, hasn't been changed in years. Anybody know what I might do to fix?

Sounds like you should start by changing the battery to me???

Possible Cures.

Are you using a foot pedal? You may know this,or not,the original pedal, the FC3A was upgraded to the FC7, apparently, the modification prevents the battery voltage reading exceeding the normal 3.5....Common probs....Dusty contacts,Volume Slide.which Seidy has covered. Also,if you haven't done so already,go to negatron theirs a blog on battery probs. Also checkout faqs at yamaha their pretty informative.good luck

Could be an oxidized connection somewhere, or a bad solder connection since it was intermittent at one time. Spraying Deoxit D5 or contact cleaner on the output jack contacts would be the first thing I'd try. Deoxit in the volume fader next and then I'd open it up (The DX is pretty easy to open up) and check the connectors on the boards. On my DX7, the volume slider needing cleaned is usually the problem. I'll use Deoxit D5 on the fader if thats all I've got handy, but Deoxit F5 (for faders) is your best bet.
