MF has a nice price and I'm just curious if anyone has these. I like DW hardware usually, but don't know anything about their drums. Any comparison to the Yamaha maple kit?

Do you mean Pacific that's made by DW that go for a grand?

yep. that's the one. it's the price that's got me interested.
i'm shopping for an acoustic kit and i'm gonna have to save a while longer if i want the yamaha maple kit. about $1500 longer.

just not sure how this one compares? i mean i'll go play them before i buy em but if anyone has some time tested experience to share i'd be grateful. like do all the lugs fall apart after a couple months or something like that.

W'eve had the new Pacific maple kit with a wrap finish in our store for a while, actually we just sold it. If you have the patience, I would go Yamaha Maple Custom. But like you said, 1500 away. So, it is my opinion thaty these drums can sound good when tuned well, but overall, the hardware is a wee bit generic. If ya catch my drift. Anyway, I would save a while longer, ya know, the phrase has been beaten to death in some threads, but is still true. Buy Cheap, Buy Twice.

I'm having that tatooed on the back of my hand so i remember from now on. Basically I'm asking whether a thousand dollar not-yamaha kit as good as 2500 dollar yamaha kit? duh?

I'm sorry, I thought I had told you pretty much what I thought of the situation. THERE'S A 1500 DOLLAR DIFFERENCE, AND YOU CAN TELL. Catch my drift this time? Like I said before, and I apologize ahead of time for this reply, but I would just keep saving. That Yamaha Maple Custom will last you the rest of your life, can't say so much 'bout that Pacific (10 years?). Ok?

agentpenguin185,

i don't think the irony in my post came through clearly. i was agreeing with your first post and thanking you for pointing out what i seem to be learning over and over and over and over....but not really learning, buy the best and then you don't have to buy anything else. it really is cheaper in the end imo. i'm just tempted every once in a while by these stupid knock off things like a maple kit for under a grand, or certain microphones that 'sound just like a neumann' etc.

the 'duh' was directed at myself. your first post was spot on. i'm saving a while longer.

OH! Sorry man. I misunderstood. Sorry about that. But, yeah. That Maple Pacific kit is called maple, but ya know not all maple is quality. Little stuff like that. But good decision in saving man. Seeya.
