Legend in Own Mind
Anyone else using these? Last week I stumbled into the Dunlop website for some strange reason and saw these:

http://www.jimdunlop.com/products/picks/products/ultex/index.html

They piqued my interest so I bought a couple (.73 and 1mm) to check them out. Man, these are some sweet picks! I've been using the same Dunlop .88 (dark gray) nylon picks for probably 10 years but I think I found a new pick. I'm liking the .73 better than 1mm right now-- it's as stiff, if not slightly stiffer, than the .88 nylons.

Am I wrong for getting excited about a pick?

Cheers!

Hell no, Scott! If we can't tinker - what else we got? :D

I had the same thing happen. A buddy gave me one sometime last year, and I've never looked back.. I use the 1.0s, and I really have come to love the feel and lack of pick-noise (acoustic).

They're the best for me so far!

Take care,
Jim

Cool... is it just me or do they get a little sticky when you fingers get sweaty? Maybe "sticky" isn't the right word, but they definitely do not get "slippery."

Last night I did MANY pick slides just to see if I could tear the picks up. After 15 or 20 massive pick slides, the Ultex didn't show one sign of abuse.

Do these stand up to the "heavy hand" strummers like myself? I break Fender Mediums left and right.

I've been using clayton gold ultem's (1.2mm) forever but recently got some of these dunlop's in 1mm..they are really sinilar to the clayton's but the dunlops are smaller..I like them both..

I will try them

Dude, if Deryk Whibley uses them, what more do you need to know!!

I'm pretty heavy handed also, but I haven't broken one yet. Granted, I have only been using these picks for about a week. I have tried bending them with my hands and they don't seem to want to break-- and return to shape really nicely.

Thanks!

What's the equivalent thickness to a Fender Medium, btw?

I'm sitting here comparing a .73 Ultex to a Fender Medium. They are very close-- the Ultex is slightly thicker.

What about the stubby's

The new picks deserve a look see...I'll check them out. Just curious if any of you have tried the Big Stubby's...I just can't seem to work with the thin flat picks. I think its the size of the part you hold...the thin ones just feel uncomfortable...like I'm going to drop it...I've got pretty big hand though.

After reading this I looked for some my next trip to the local music shop, and bought a few -- but I realized I already had some and had used them and liked them very much. Mine all had the rhino logo worn off and that was why I didn't tumble to it right away.

I'm really liking the attack I get from these picks. Especially compared to the dull sounding attack from the nylon picks I've been using for years.
