Hey guys I didn't really know where to post this and it's going to sound super dumb but what genre of music is this:

youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=2ATZsuxxT7k

It seems like blues to me but it sounds more modern and I'm really interested in this style and want to go try it out on guitar

link is not working?

is this it?

if so?...and it was a comeplete song in that type riff so to speak...I`d likely put it in my blues genre...

Yeah thats it! and I was thinking blues. I really should learn blues anyway cause even when I play jazz i use blues scales and tempo to play leads over it..

What's up with the stupids on Youtube asking for tab? Jesus Tap Dancing Christ there is a video of the guy playing the lick!

I'd also call it blues but I don't agree with the current trend towards defining a genre and then feeling you have to play the proper style and nothing else.
Play what feels right to you and don't be thinking, "Oh ..... I have to play blues licks over this" ....... that's a sure way to sound like everyone else and is boring.

I know what you mean. I just meant my music leans towards blues. my objective is not to play traditional blues but to learn some of the style because it will help me learn to play faster and smoother

well that clip is what I'd call blues if I had to pick a genre but actually my first thought upon hearing it was ..... Hendrix licks.
It's the way he used to play rhythms

yeah a few people on youtube mentioned that. I just really want to reinvent my style and play rhythms a little more difficult. my leads are fine but my rhythms are slower and border on boring (in my eyes)

Sounds like The Wind Cries Mary, by Jimi Hendrix

not really .... what it sounds like is the way Hendrix tended to play rhythm as I pointed out. But the progression in that clip sounds nothing like Wind Cries Mary.

That little downward progression harkens to Mary.
no it really doesn't except for the style of the rhythm playing. The Wind Cries mary is a V to a IV to a I while that's a I to a minor VI .... pretty different and the timing of the chord changes is different.
It's the style that's the same ...... but not the progression.

The walk from the V to the VI and then back to the I. The last two measures of that lick in the clip. That's the part I'm talking about. On the record the bass walks down from the V to the VI at the beginning of the first verse. It's not a direct copping of the entire Mary lick, it's more implied.
