Duh! What am I doing wrong?

OK. I have CakeWalk Guitar Studio and CoolEdit Pro. Lucky me. Can I get them working? No. In the box - SB Audigy. Problem - I can lay down a guitar track via microphone to Track One in both these progs and that's fine. Unclick the R on Track 1 and click the R on Track 2. Commence recording. Then (aaarrgghh) Track 2 records the second guitar part AND the first all over again. DUH! What am I not doing, or are all stupid people punished this way? Please help after the laughter has died down.
 
Check you're not recording "What you hear" in the Windows Master volume control. You need it set to record your Mic input only.
