dual soundcards with onboard audio: bad idea?

So I'm considering upgrading my computer and going for one of those multimedia specials (will also make dvd's from mini DV home movies). I use an SB Live for soundfonts and an Echo Mia for audio. The system has XP home, so I thought it might be flexible enough to allow disabling of onboard audio and run the two soundcards. They run great together on my Dell XPS T500, but it does not have onboard audio.

Any thoughts or experience with this issue?

Should be fine. The onboard audio should be easy enough to disable in the BIOS, and the computer won't think it's there any more. Worst case maybe spend a little extra time uninstalling the onboard audio software drivers after you disable it in the BIOS...

I have two soundcards and an onboard sound card. A soundblaster live for my speakers and a DAL Card Deluxe for recording. I don't even have the onboard sound disabled and it all runs fine.

Same here. Onboard sound is disabled and I have a SB Live as well as the Audiophile. No problems to speak of.
