What are the benefits...

To me, it appears this is to become the defacto standard so I might as well knuckle under, find the bread and make it happen. What do you think, inquiring recordists want to know?

I think its pointless. I have seen several reviews that say Apple's "upgrades" (faster DDR RAM, dual CPU's) to the G4 line provide no significant performance benefit and do not justify the cost.

I can dig up those test results if you like.

What are the benefits...

The benefit is that Apple remains relevant. You couldn't very well target high end users with 1Ghz processors when 2.8Ghz is available, and for less money.
