Hi,

I need to buy a new PC for a "pro" studio, or at least I want it to be pro.

I´m going to work with Yamaha 02r, Hammerfall, Nuendo, etc.

Well the question is if I shuld buy a Pc based in a PIV 2Ghz processor or a Pc with a dual Mobo and two processors Amd Mp 1,2 Ghz.

In both cases I´m giong to install Windows 2000, so what do you think?

Hey, if you can afford the P4 - 2ghz, more power to you. That's what I'd get. It's faster than the 1.4ghz Thunderbird in most applications, and could potentially be THE chip to have for recording, if any of the popular recording packages get rewritten to take advantage of SSE2.

Having two processors is really not a great deal faster than having one, and it's useless unless the software is written to take advantage of it.

Plus, your computer will get quite hot when you're recording - and Thunderbirds run quite hot anyway. Put two on one motherboard, and not only are you asking for major trouble (No AMD desktop CPU has thermal protection - if your CPU gets too hot, it fries - I can show you pictures, if you like), but you will need a heavy duty cooling solution, which will create more noise.

I'd get the P4, or possibly the P3 Tualatin.

and what about a dual Pentium III Xeon (I think !!)?

III Xeon

I use these chips for my servers at work and they work great with Exchange and most server applications, but I have never used them for other than office related stuff.

I don't think there's any reason to employ SMP in a recording setup, and I really don't see why you would need a Xeon at home. That chip is made for completely different kinds of applications.
