Ok, here are some instructions for a dual boot setup. This appears more complicated than it really is. Usually the case when you write something out step by step.

Please don't download the files on the web page and experimentally double-click on the various contents. I would hate to see you erase your drive(s).

Here is the webpage location:

another option

I decided to go the safe route and buy products from Powerquest to partition(Partition Magic) my harddrives, boot them(boot Magic-comes w PM) and make copies with "Drive image." I rarely have computer crashes now. Actually my daughter is the only one to crash things now because she is too impatient to wait for one operation to finish before starting another. I'm trying to train her- it's a dad's duty.

None of these products are "safe". What I like about masterbooter is that it is small. Partition "magic", system "commander" are bloatware that give you zero control.

Whatever works is the important thing though.

Emeric, nice job!

Dual booting two Win9x installations can be tricky but it looks like you covered everything. I remember getting NT4 and 9x to work was a little tricky as well.

I've been impressed lately by both Windows 2000 and Redhat linux. They both love multi-booting as long as you install them LAST...though I haven't tried them together yet...hmm.

Anyway, I also agree that you should manually partition. I like the way linux systems are typically partitioned, and although you don't have be quite as dramatic with 9x, it's still a good idea to try to understand what's really going on.

1.45 pm - dobro reads present thread, initiated by Emeric and okayed by Slack. Thinks 'this must be good'.

1.47 pm - dobro goes to link and prints out dualbooting instructions. All nine pages.

1.49 pm - dobro returns to bbs and reads Emeric's 'This appears more complicated than it really is.'

1.49 - dobro considers above statement, glancing apprehensively at the nine-page document on the table, and wondering with a sense of mixed awe and gratitude what a 'complicated procedure' might look like.

1.50 - dobro thanks Emeric for changing his life.

Nice Job,

Emeric,
Nice job, I'm not at all offended by your description of Partition Magic. When I did partitioning, there was no clear step-by-step sequence that I had avalible. There was a weak attempt at it that left me at the end of a dead end alley. So, I went with Partition Magic and "98lite".
If anyone reads this, follow Emeric's steps. Your audio will work faster and crashes will be drastically reduced. If only Audio hardware/software had such well thought out instructions. Emeric, have you considered manuel writing? You are needed.

oneArtist: Thanks. Partition magic has it's place as do other programs of this type. Only reason for posting this is to give a guide for someone interested in dual boot. This may not be the best or easiest way, but it does work.

Dobro, let me know how it goes! (if you choose to accept this mission).
