I've been running 2000 and 98 on a dual boot system. I was trying to "trick" 2000 (i'll explain later) But, so now 2000 just restarts the computer when it tries to load. I don't have a boot disk for 2000(couldn't figure out how to do it in 2000 :) ????) and I'm not sure how to fix it. I thought i could just start an install of 2000- and
i would have the option to repair it, but it just started the install, and i stopped it cuz i wasen't sure where it was going....

I was trying to switch my computer from "standard PC" back to the mulitiprocessor PC (Dual celerons). well kinda screwed that up didn't I? How do I do this?

Gadget Lab drivers wont install in dual processor mode in 2000. so i thought maybe i could switch back after the install... if I could get it to happen... :D!!!:)!!!:D

well - i decided not to be so scaredy about it and ran the instal, repaired the problem. Gadget labs card not working in dual processor mode- oh well though i was on to something......

Damn I gotta get NT!

I wouldnt go to 2000 yet, maybe Win ME but not 2000. I'd just stick with 98 for a while. My system is a dual boot with win 98 and linux mandrake 7 OS's, I dont have dual processors though. I know that when you reinstall windows it will overwrite the lilo booter and that screws up getting into linux. I suppose thats what you mean by a dual booting system...

James,

I *knew* I should have written this down and posted it! Moving from a single processor to the multi-processor kernel is a rather difficult process unless you completely reinstall. You can't just plug another CPU in and expect windows to automatically adjust.

I recently went through this with NT4...it was quite a process....only about 4 steps, but they all needed to be done just right or blammo...reinstall.

It ended up working out for me. If you're still having trouble, let me know and I'll see if I can't pull something together for you.

And you *have* NT :) I'd like to see you recording in Win2000...I think you'll like it as much as I do. It sure beats the shit out of Win98, and is friendlier than NT4. With a little tweaking here and there, it's extremely stable too. In fact, I'll often be recording with n-Track, running the SoundDiver POD software, running my drum software, running an Instant Messenger, and browsing the BBS all at the same time...I don't even think twice about it....and I only have one measly processor :)

And for my big question...why on earth are you running both 98 and Windows 2000? I celebrated when 2000 came out because I no longer had to dual boot between 98 and NT4. Do you have some hardware that requires Windows98? Is it expendible?

Well slack,

I'd like to keep 98 going. just so that I can play around with rebirth (as far as I know it dosen't work with NT/2000 haven't tried it though but i read somthing about NT not supporting softsynths and the like ???) and also I've just been lazy about updating AOL to the 2000 version. :D but i think i'm canning aol... that's a whole other story...

Gadget labs says that their cards are incompatible with 2000 in dual processor mode- the drivers won't load they say. But they say nothing about changing it after they are installed...
