Hello, I am a new drumer and I am going to but a 2nd hand e-drum. I have some question.

1) What's the different between DTXV20 and DTXPress?
2) Which one is better?
3) Is a DTXV20 (3-year drum) resonable for $4500?

Thank you very much!!!

4500 . . . get a set of V-drums new. As far as I know, the DTX V2.0 kit only cost 2000-2500 new.

Overall, the DTX V2.0 is a better machine. It has better sounds, more processing power and also has a built in sequencer. The layout of the controls is also much more user friendly.

The DTXpress is an excellent practice unit and may be better suited for your purposes (and cheaper). But, here's a quick comparison. . . .

v2.0 has a polyphony of 32 - xpress has 16
v2.0 has an effects processor - xpress has none
v2.0 has 64 drum kits - xpress has 48
v2.0 has 880 sounds - xpress has 928
v2.0 has a sequencer - xpress has none

I guess the real question is, what kind of triggers are they packaged with? The DTXpress is generally packaged as a standard five piece with rubber pads, while there are a number of different configurations with the DTX V2.0. All the v2.0 kits I've seen use rubber pads as well. Unless the kit was upgraded to mesh pads (and a lot of them) I can hardly see any justification of that price.

Hope that helps.

I recently did a side by side comparison of the new Yamaha DTExtreme and the new Roland TD20 V-Drums. While the TD-20 kit is about $5500 vs. about $3600 for the DTExtreme the new Rolands are much better. I have a TD-10 kit and I am giving serious thought to an upgrade.

$4500 seems way too much for a 3 year old DTXV20. If you are prepared to spend that much look at a new DTExtrem (or even better spend some more for the TD20).

However those are truly pro level kits. If you aren't going to use them to generate income (either gigging or in session work), then you may be much beeter off spending $1,000 on a DTExpress.

Thanks Jonnyfive and mikeh, the information is helpful to me.
