Hello
I recorded the drums onto 2 tracks of a 4 track, panned L and R. I only have 2 tracks left of first generation, and was wondering what the best methods would be for adding guitars, vocals, and bass. If necessary, I can mixdown and all that, but I am trying to get the highest amount of clarity. Thanks

kobra,

One option would be to record vocals and bass on one track and guitar and the other. The reason for this is because typically vocals and bass are recorded in mono and you have a little flexibility during mixdown with eq.. if you are careful with the levels, you can then try adding a second guitar during mixdown and pan it and the prerecorded guitar track left and right for stereo.. also, sometimes having only one rhythm guitar playing gives the mix a little more space.. this way you could instead record guitar solos during mixdown...

hope this helps..

Do you have a cassette deck or...

Do you have a cassette deck or better yet a minidisc or CD?

Record bass on one track and then guitar on the last track.
Then mix down all 4 tracks to the 2 track (Cassette or minidisc)
This will be your stereo basic track, You can do it over and over until it sounds balanced.

Then transfer this basic track in stereo to the 4 track (Don't erase the originals) Use a new tape marked "2nd generation basic"

You now have two more tracks for vocals and other instrumentals, and If you used a minidisc or CD, I bet you won't even notice the generation loss!

Sincerely;

Dom Franco

Thanks
I guess I will try the cassette thing once, and if it doesn't work, I will just rerecord with bass and vocals together.
