I am putting together a basic studio in my house for recording, and fun. Having kids, I can't make much noise after 9pm, so an acoustic drum kit is out. I've listened to a few electronic kits, and they all sound...electronic.

In playing with Sonar, I've had toyed with the Session Drummer a bit, and the samples there are fantastic. So I got to thinking...why not let the drummer record with the electronic kit and then replace that with the session drummer, using the MIDI data from what he played.

Is that possible?

Could I generate a MIDI file from a human drummer, and then pipe it to session drummer, to get a nicer sound?

Has anyone actually done this?

I haven't seen it with Session Drummer, but EZDrummer works and sounds great. You can see some videos of that very thing on their website; www.toontrack.com . If it can be done with ezd, I'm sure session drummer can do it also.

At some point, I will buy some edrums to do the same thing. (for the same reasons - kids sleeping at night)

I want to learn how to record live drums..just for the sake of learning how to. But that will be a daytime project, I have a kid in the house as well, can't be making a racket all night.

This is why I use Drumcore for all my recordings..... http://www.drumcore.com

Great program. Check it out..might suit your needs...

Hi there,

This could be a right solution for you.

Alesis USB Pro Electronic Drum Kit with Surge Cymbals

It has mesh pads and coated Cymbals. that all feels like playing real drumz.
It comes with BFD virtual drum software. the samples are very good. It will also work with the superrior drummer and other virtual drum softwares.
Connect it with USB to computer and enjoy. Real thing!!!
