Drums - Loops or Drum Machine?

Hey all,

I currently am trying to use some drum loops that I have for my Acid 4 software (actually, if I switch to Vegas or any program I wonder if I can still even use these in a diff proogy?)

Anyways, wondering if it is much easier on me to get a drum machine down the road? It seems finding the right drum beat and fills are so tedious and hard for me. Even just like starting s song, I just want a basic beat, even a high-hat is fine, but cant find it...

So with a drum machine does it make my life easier? :)

Well yea..it does make life easier...think of it this way: is it easier to compose by writing notes on the program using the pencil tool or by using the keyboard to write the notes? the keyboard obviously...its more hands-on and right in front u. so i guess, its the same with the drum machine. u can probably get work done faster with it than on the computer. however, i use Redrum in Reason to make my drum beats. and its quite easy actually. i dont really need a drum machine if i have Redrum. its basically a replica of a drum machine.

(actually, if I switch to Vegas or any program I wonder if I can still even use these in a diff proogy?)

yes u can...basically drag and drop the loop files onto the sequencer. the problem that might come up is that the loops might not fall in the same measure or beat. in that case, u might have to modify the tempo. but yeah, it will work fine.

A drum machine (hardware or software) will definitely give you more specific control of exact beats very quickly without having to slice up loops, etc, so it does make your life easier in that regard - however, depending on the style of drumming/percussion, loops can be far more realistic sounding (when you're looping a real drummer)...
If I have a specific pattern I want, I like to use a drum machine as a scratch pad and then find/edit a loop to match...

Hrm, coolness

Think I will pick up a drum machine this weekend. Gonna go cheap for now (Alesis SR-16 or maybe the Zoom MRT13) and see how I like them.

Do you mean This Reason?

Good Idea Dr. B, so many times I have been ready to lay down some stuff and just need a basic kick / snare beat to keep my timing and by the time I find something in my loops I am ready for bed and have lost all inspiration. :(

Thansk for the replies ~

Nevermind studio, I just saw this

Interesting...

Hehe...enjoy it! I'm telling u...the Redrum machine is fantastic!
If i were u, with the price of a drum machine, i would rather buy Reason itself!

Ya, I'd definitely go for a software drum machine... Redrum is good and you can even find decent ones for free!

beatcraft is pretty cool. Only 40 bucks. You can try it free for a week though(full featured) to see if you like it.
