what is it for? i was reading about and i could really figgure out excaly how it works..i know its samples but what can i do with it? i can use the samples on a electric set?

Generally, these samples are triggered by midi. I have DFHS, and just program with a mouse in a midi map, using Sonar.

It's not the tool to cut your midi teeth on ;) ...in amatuer hands the results range from "can't get it to work to...sounds like a drum machine", in skilled hands the results can be much more life like. But be warned, the learning curve to achieving a realistic result isn't for the less than determined.

I've got it...it's ok...for me, I'll use it to augment a real player's work...sometimes I'll set up triggers to add drum sounds or sound qualities which I couldn't get in the live recording.

Depends on the piece aswell. If you've got a rocksong, which every other thing miced (vox, guitars etc.), than it's gonna be a bitch to make the drums fit. On the other hand, I used the toms from DFH2 to add thickness to an orchestral percussion piece and it worked amazingly well (orchestral stuff was also all midi).

I agree with punkin. I have DFH2 and it is not for the faint of heart.

DFH2 is sort of the bastard child of DFHS. I recommend not wasting your money on it and spending your dollars on either DFHS or DFH Custom & Vintage. I have DFH C&V and that works awsome.

I always wondered why they called it Drum Kit from Hell...after the first couple hours...I figured it out. :o

You're not kidding :( . DFH2 has absolutely no technical support and is just about the worst piece of "commercial" software I've seen. This is also complicated by the fact that 2 seperate companies contributed to the product. Toontrack was responsible for the samples (only) and NI wrote the interface.

DFHS & DFH C&V are exclusively Toontrack. These products have a MUCH better interface (still needs some work IMO) and are starting to support e-drums. I trgger the C&V samples playing an e-kit live so I'm not sure how much "fun" it actually is to have to program.

I bought DFH2 from musiciansfriend and its on backorder so I'm waiting on it.
My hopes are to use the built in sampler program to build my own complete drum tracks, and then somehow get them onto my tascam DP-01 where I will record electric/acoustic guitar, and bass.
How does the sampler work for those of us able to program a drum machine? I mean...... i can PLAY drums, so even if I had to use trial and error its only a matter of time before I can program a pattern that mirrors whats in my head.

it looks like you and me have the same hopes..i orderd mine on ebay..so im waiting for it..bit i have a cheap electric set so we will see lol
