I am a long time drummer and newbie to recording. I have observed engineers "tinkering" while doing studio and live work, but that is the extent of my recording experience. I have built a practice studio in my home and am now attempting to begin recording my drums in the hopes that eventually (over MUCH time) I will be able to produce good results for people in need of recorded live drums.
Please check out my snare and bass drum recording at http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=3222&alid=-1
Please offer any advice on how to improve the sounds.
Snare was recorded with an SM57.
Bass with an MD421. I boosted at 70hz on the bass. Is that common if using an MD 421?
System:
P4 3Ghz
Soundblaster PCI512
Samson 8 channel mixer(2pre's)
Sonor 2.0 (using stock plugins for any effects, EQ, compression, etc.)
Please help
