Drum Sounds on my pc

Hey guys. I'm just starting to work out some cheap recording solutions for a comedy band. I purchased Mics for guitars, bass, and vocals, and attempted to mic the drum kit with the very same mics. Bad idea, I know. It sounded terrible. Worse than the MIDI drumming I can do on my PC.

My problem is that I cannot afford to spend more on mics, nor do I have constant access to the drum set (it is at a band mates house). Seeing as it'd be much easier for me to go the drum machine route, I was wondering on solutions that woudln't require any more hardware, I.E. software stuff that doesn't sound as bad as the MIDI stuff my multi-track programs can do. I tried out PcDrummer from www.pcdrummer.com, but it sounded horrible. I don't have much money to spend, otherwise I'd just grab a drum machine. I do NOT need it for live stuff, and I can afford to record it seperately, which makes me think buying a drum machine would be a waste of money. Anyone know of any good (preferably cheap) programs that could let me have a decent drum sound on my PC?

Thanks.

Oh yes, and I hate sampling. I prefer to have total control over the sequencing, even if it ends up being something I could have sampled in ten minutes. Thanks. I have tried out Acid with drum loops and it doesn't have the control I need over the sound.

Hey, you a dmb fan, trip? How can you settle for using synth drums when you have listened to Carter? Lol JK.

I can get pretty good drum sounds out of my PC. It's a midtower. The best sounds are not on the top but more on the sides down some. The left side is loose and I get a good snare out of that.

Never tride to mic it up. I would guess that dynamic mics would be ok but I like to track with some compression when tracking PC drums. The problem is that compression brings up the background noise of the PC. I tried switching it off and that worked a little better.

Good Luck!

fruity loops is a friendly little sequencer....biggest drawback is the inability to program in odd times

it comes with some decent sounds...and there are mounds of good free drum sound downloads that you can get your hands on and load into the system

Yeah, I've been looking at fruity loops. However, it is as expensive as some cheap drum machines.

Also, the post about drumming ON the pc was very funny :)

You can get a free copy of fruity loops demo. It has most every option, but saving. So you just have to work with it until you like it and export it as a wav file, then burn it to a cd. All totally free!!!!!
