Hi guys,

If given a choice of drum samples, what would you prefer .wav or.mp3?

The reason I'm asking, is this:

I'm auditioning for a "Name" band. No I'm not telling, but it's a VERY well known band; but If I get the gig I'll tell.
I have to burn them a CD of some of my playing, so I wil already have some stuff on my PC-I thought, "why not put some samples online?"

Anyway, I'm going to put up samples of my kit.

They will be the following:

16" x 28" Kick (B:5 R:5)
16" x 20" Floor (B:5 R:10)
14" x 18" Floor (B:5 R:10)
12" x 15" Mounted (B:5 R:10)
8" x 14" Snare. (B:10 R:10)

The B represents the Batter head, and the R the resonant-this is how much pressure per lug using a neary Torque, and then fine tuning.

I will put several different snare tunings up.

Previously, I had been tuning with approximately 2 PSI-meaning extremely loose, while going for the lowest not possible, but it was just to lose, so I put a decent amount of presure on the heads, and tuned them all to a relative tension, and man, they thump, and have EXACTLY the tuning scheme that I like....you can play the "bugle part" from the opening of the horseraces on them.

I'll also be putting that online, so that people understand what I'm talking about!

Wav Sounds Good!
what i want to know is when and where?

awesome Tim ... I'm looking forward to hearing it!
definitely wav format too :)

How do you usually record samples? the way you'd would normally mic the kit (multiple mics)? or would you use the same mic for each drum one at a time? Just wondering ...

Hi Big Kahuna,

Well...I've done al aorts of stuff.

One thing I tend to do, is leave al my Tom mic's on-and that helps create the depth in the stereo image...that might sound crazy to everybody-but in context-what you get is the sound of a drum IN A SET, not a "single drum in a room"...which always sounds like..er..uh (trying to be nice) ....fake.

If you want to get a basic Idea what the kit sounds like, I posted a song in the Mp3 Clinic-it's a very rough mix.

My internal Kickmounts were "rocking" when i was playing-so I mic'ed them from out front-man-No attack at all, juts like a low end "Whoomp" which is what my brother wanted-it's more of a "feeling" and less of a sound....Hahaha sort of like the AC/DC kick dropped down realy low.

24/48 waves! And let the drums ring until they're *completely* dead.

If you do this you're going to be THE MAN!

I was looking over at www.2dcd.com but I can't afford their disc right now. I use some of their sample samples and they're excellent. One of the crash samples is over 30 seconds long!!! That's what I'm talking about!

Slackmaster 2000

Slack thats some bad ass samples at that site.....and I agree that some 24 bit samples would be great....
