I've been recording for a little while, but drums are always a bit difficult to get just right. I got into the whole recording thing on my own and I feel I may be missing out on a few well-known trade secrets and common sense simply because I'm relatively out of the loop. My main questions are as follows:

Mic Placement - What is the most common position for micing a snare drum?
Is there a position for the hihat mic that won't get as much bleed-through from the snare and still retain a true sound? (hihats are a problem for me in general)
What's the most common position for overheads?

Mixing/EQ - What frequency ranges do you find effective for overhead mics so that cymbals retain their natural sound w/o sounding tinny?

Pretty basic stuff, so feel free to throw out answers to any of these or share any generally effective techniques for recording drums. Thanks,

Rian

1st thing 1st... after you read Bruces post, read Harveys Mogolian 50 page post on mics, mic placement, bread baking, and mic patterns. The patterns will help you choose a mic with a good null on the hats, etc.
Phase is important, themore mics, the harder it gets. Read his post, then ask questions. :)

Where To Find?

Hey Tube Dude

Can you please tell me where i can find that 50 page article?

Thanks
