drum recording help?

Download Transient Monster as well. It will really help to get the kick and snare to cut through a metal mix. It is free to trial, but totally worth the $49 respectful payment. I paid.
 
Already Jimmy, I can't figure that shit out again. I am getting totally pissed, I got it set to have a midi out, I set my superior drummer channel's input to kt drum channel 10, I put kt on my kick drum track, I arm the superior drummer track, and hit record, does do shit. Help, if you can get me there again, I don't know what I did before.
 
I wish I had knowledge of your DAW (Sonar). Basically, you just choose which MIDI note is sent from KT. KT input should be selected from the VSTi that you select (Superior). It should just work from there. Make sure that KT is sending the right note (MIDI) to Superior D.

If you had Cubase, I would be able to give definitive instruction. I can only be vague here. :(
 
Wait, why are you arming the channel to record? You shouldn't have to do that. KT should just trigger the Drum program in real time. There shouldn't be a need to record it. Not knowing your DAW, makes it tough to figure out what is going on here. I wish I had more to offer man.
 
I have to arm the Superior Drummer track to record the midi tracks sent by the kt drum trigger as far as I remembered. I may be wrong, I am gonna have to screw with it some more. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Let me give you the run down exactly of what I am doing. I have the acoustic kick drum track, I put kt drum trigger in it as a soft synth plugin. I have the superior drummer midi track set to record. I have the input on superior drummer set to kt drum trigger channel 10. The output I put to my drum bus. I have the kt drum trigger picking up the kick, I hit record in hopes of kt drum trigger to send the midi signals to superior drummer and make a midi track inside the superior drummer channel, but it isn't making a midi track. I have the correct midi notes set in kt drum, and the midi output is set to channel 10. I don't know what else I need to do to get it to create a midi track. It isn't making a midi track for some reason. I had it working before on a different computer with a different os, I had it working on a 32 bit computer running xp. I am now running xp64 professional on my desktop. I don't know if that matters. I also have drumagog 4, I don't know if it would work to get a midi track or not. I tried to get it to work as well, but can't figure that one out either. It does do real time drum samples, but I wanna use my superior drummer samples, because I think that they sound better. Any suggestions would be very helpful.
 
Just for troubleshooting purposes, maybe try taking your kick track and importing it into a brand new project in a new directory. Then do all you have done and see if that works. Sometimes computers can just be silly like that for no apparent reason. I sorta doubt it would be different, but it's worth a shot! Also, have you tried restarting your computer?! :p
 
I will have to try that and see if it helps. I don't know what I did before to get it to work. It boggles the mind lol.
 
OS will not change how KT works. Man, I wish I knew how to work in Sonar. If you had Cubase, I would be able to help you. There is something wrong with how you are sending the MIDI info to Superior. You should not have to record anything. KT should just trigger any VSTi note.

Steven Slate Trigger EX can only be used with a PC right? I record on a Yamaha AW 16G. I cannot figure out how this machine can work in my audio chain since it's all internal. Once I bump everything to PC...the mix is made. Just curious about my options.
 
Yeah, as far as I know, it's all in the box. Steven Slate Trigger EX basically is a gate in a way, you place it in say a kick drum channel strip in your daw, what it does is sends a midi signal to a vsti that will trigger like ezdrummer or superior drummers kick drum sounds. I think you could use it on a stereo mix, but it would be some seriously time consuming editing and tweaking to get it to do what you want. The best way is to close mic everything, and have seperate channels for each mic.
 
No, SS Trigger wont work with your standalone recording unit. :(

Nathan, you just described KT Drum Trigger there. :) Steven State Trigger is a completely different animal, though it can trigger MIDI as well. It has its own set of samples that you can mix with the originals, within itself. Even layer multiple samples within the vst. Or even take your own samples and use SST to trigger them from audio. You can also, basically side chain another piece of kit that would typically cause mis-triggers. Say high tom is very close to the snare, you can send that signal in to SST and it will ignore it.
 
I'm gonna have to break down and get SS Trigger, it sounds like it could be a serious help for what I am wanting to do. Especially if I can take my own samples and trigger them. I have heard of people taking other bands recordings and sampling their kick drums or snares, that would be awesome as hell if I could take a individual sound from a bands recording like a kick and use it as a sample for my own recordings.
 
As long as you can kind a single kick, meaning no cymbals or other instruments on a stereo recording, yeah you could do that. I once found a VH snare sample for a client who wanted a bit of that tone added to his. Takes a bit of time to give the sample a natural sounding tail, and of course you can change it's pitch after sampled, within SS Trigger. The end result did not sound just like Alex, but it gave a certain quality that the client was happy with.

Here is a pic of the Instrument Editor. All you do is record a wav of your sample, import in in a slot, then save it to SS Trigger. Simple stuff. Then it is there for selection whenever you want it.

That is so awesome, that could be alot of fun to play with for sure. I have had drummers come to me and say I want my kick to sound like this or that, now it may be possible to sample the kick sound that they wanted, or snare or whatever. Very cool. You do need an Ilok though don't you?
 
It is so worth it though. It opens alot of doors that otherwise wouldn't get opened. I need to pay off a few of my recently aquired toys but count on me getting trigger ex in the next couple. I think I am gonna get the line6 pod hd as to go with it, think that would make recording alot easier as well.
 
Yeah, you will be amazed how much better everything sounds, if your drums sound great. Not all of us have the ability to make them great the right way, which involves a whole bunch of money. Hell, I have quite a bit invested, and I still reach for SST. I'm not however a purist, a punk, a hack, a dweeb, nor a metal head. I work with what I feel is good, and use whatever tool necessary to get it sounding as good as possible. Well, I might be a bit of a metal head. :)
 
Yeah, I am in the same boat. I am sure I don't have nearly as much invested, but I do have enough to get a decent sound. I will keep working on getting a good drum sound, but till I master it, I think that ssd trigger is probably gonna become a good friend of mine lol. I may try to work on sampling my own drums.
