Do you know how to do drum patterns, fast and easy. I could play with my keyboard but I need more practice to make it sound even.
Another problem that I got is:

First, I got my midi drum pattern in one track. Then I try to record an audio track (bass or guitar) but it doesn´t record, just the metronome and sometimes no signal. I think this is related to the settings of my soundcard (SB Live!).

Hope you can help me

Thanks

Drum Pattern tool -

1. Open MIDI track in Piano Roll view
2. Click the Drum Pattern tool icon on the right hand side to drop down the menu
3. Choose what type of pattern you want
4. Click and drag on the Piano Roll and it will paint in the drum pattern you selected.

Audio issue -

Sounds like you have the track set to record MIDI input, not AUDIO.

1. Go to TRACK view
2. Click the IN setting for the AUDIO track
3. Select SB Live WAVE Output (something like that - just not the one saying MIDI)

Give it a go.

Ciao,

Q.

I have a sb live! OEM with Sonar 2. Maybe I can hlep you here.
Open Sonar, under FILE select new>normal
that will give you two midi tracks and two audio tracks.
In 1st audio track click IN, select SB Live! (wdm) >Sb live! Wave Device. Select OUT and click on SB kive! Wave Device.
open your windows or creative mixer and select mic in, and turn down your master record level to about 3, and the mic to 3.
Now back in Sonar, arm the audio track, if you start getting a feedback loop, the 2nd icon from right up top will stop the audio engine. Take the volume level down a bit more in your mixer.
Now you can use the trim option to set your loudest attack to light up the led at about 18 to 12 . If you light up the red one your signal is too strong. Now that you`ve got your audio ready you can Mute that track until you get your drum track down on one of the midi channels. Afte, rewind, arm the audio track, take Mute off and you should be ready to record.

Hi TamaSabian,

When recording audio, you need to make sure your sound card mixer or Windows Mixer is set properly. Check out this Cakewalk article for information on how to do that:

Drum patterns

I can´t find the drum pattern tool icon on the piano roll view. So the problem continues.

About recording audio, I do record from an downloaded midi theme, but when I create a pattern using piano roll I don´t know why but I can´t record audio (mic or line input).
Do you have any idea why this is happening ???

The piano roll view is strictly for MIDI data. You won't see any audio data in there.
