Hey Dizzy,
I'm a firm believer in using LDC condensers as drum overheads. . .especially for home recording projects. I think that the LDC mic's as overheads give me a fuller and much more balanced sound from the drum-kit, . . especially when your not individually mic'ing all your toms. . . So, I think that you will get some pretty good results from those MXL-2000's. I've been using the MXL-V67G as overheads for some time now with excellent results. . . here is a review:

I have also recorded the drums in mono, . . using only a (3) mic set-up, . .one MXL-v67G as Overhead, a SM57 on the snare, and a Audio Technica Pro-25 on the Kick drum, . . with Phenomenal results. Depending on the type of music of course. . .
So, I don't think you can go wrong with either the MXL-2000, or a SP B-1, or the MXL-v67G as overheads, . .and they are all in your price range too.
PS. I took a look at your drum kit, . and I dig your Pearl Masterworks man-- very tasteful setup. . .How many mics, are you planning on using to mic your kit, . and were you planning on using them for recording, or live gigs?
