Hello, so I'm transforming my room into a recording studio, and I'm also replacing my electronic drums with acoustic drums. But acoustic drums are WAY too loud, so I need either drum mutes, or to soundproof my room.

The thing about soundproofing is that its a little more expensive, but would stop other sounds from entering my room (probably a bit obvious, but still). I don't notice a lot of other from the outside unless someone is RIGHT outside my door or if a car drives by the house, which, like, NEVER happens.

So would you recommend drum mutes or just to soundproof my room?

Soundproofing would be way to expensive.
Who would you be soundproofing against?

Are you planning on recording with the drum mutes on your drums? Because that will sound like ass. And yes, true sound proofing is expensive as well as border line impossible (from what I understand at least). Are there people in your house complaining about the drums? Would it be possible to work out some sort of schedule?

My parents and neighbors (I'm a minor), they already complain about my electric drums being too loud. Another thing is that my room is kinda small and you're supposed to keep stuff at least 6" from the soundproofing foam.

Yeah I would take the mutes off for recording, but I would take only about an hour for one song, only about half of that actually playing. So people should be okay with that.

Well first off, to be clear in definition, foam is not considered soundproofing. A treatment yes, but will not stop sound from escaping at all.

You can put all the foam you want, it won't "sound-proof" anything. Like others have said, sound-proofing is VERY expensive and almost impossible to achieve.

The fact that they even find your electronics too loud shows that they'll find anything too loud.

well if your parents would rather have you ripping out your walls to fill with better sound absorbing insulation...go for it, even better if it's going to be on their bill.

Just tell them they can either cough up the money or they have to listen to the drumming all day.

I'm apparent! lol. Anyone want to change spots with my kid? He don't give a shiznit that there is 25g worth of recording gear in his basement. I'll be accepting applications here........

why is it that you cant keep the electronic set or perhaps upgrade to a better one?

The reason I ended up a bass player was because my parents would not let me buy a drum kit.
