Hey folks,
I'm looking for a small (8 XLR channels) mixer I can use as a portable drum mixer; the FOH board my band uses doesn't really have the channels I need. What's a reasonable (cheap) mixer that could be used for live (and recording) purposes that can take a little bit of road abuse?

1604 only has 6 XLRs I need 8 (2 overheads, 1 snare, 1 hats, 3 toms, 1 kick)

Uh no... I've used them before in the same situation as you describe. The 1604 is a 16-channel (with 16 XLRs) small-format mixer..........

You could easily find a used VLZ on ebay for cheap --- they're getting on to a decade old...

He's right Bruce. The original 1604 had 6 preamps. You had to buy a 10 channel xlr extender to make it 16 channels.

I did mean the VLZ -- I'd forgotten about the original!

No worries! Actually, I was thinking I may get a VLZ, but then I figured maybe the Soundcraft M8 - which has 8 XLRs instead of 16 - may be a better deal for the same price as far as quality goes. Anyone know anything about the M8s and M12s?
