i have two SM-57's and i've been wondering,
What is the best way to mic a drumset with these.
I know that in general, you want a mic for the kick
and two overheads, but i only have 2 mics.
What do i do?

Best (In my opinion)

Under the circumstances, with only 2 sm57s i would put one on the kick (allthough the 57 doesn't make a very good kick mic) and one directly over head the playing side of kit about top of head high(as the drummer would sit) just in front of you angled slightly toward your rack toms. You obviously want to keep it out of striking range. The trick will be (because of the narrow pickup pattern of the sm57) keeping as low to the kit to get a fuller sound(proximity effect) and high enough to hear the full kit (pickup pattern).

Try it out , let us know!
