Drum mics...

What do you fellas think about Audio Technica mics? They're priced pretty fairly as far as drum mics go, and I've heard that they're not terrible (at least better than CAD)...which brings me to ask, are CAD mics that horrible too? I don't want to spend a fortune on mics (duh) and I'm probably only going to use these for demos and maybe a first album. So are Audio Technica and CAD the only "economy" mics out there or are there better methods that cost as much but are better? I've heard of using a kick drum mic and 3 SM-57s for snare, between toms, and on bass drum...Plus either condensors or overhead SM-57s for cymbal micing. Any help is appreciated...

I have 3 Audio Technica "midnight blues" mics and 2 CAD E-1000 mics. The CAD are a little "warmer", IMO, but even the "blues" work fine for overheads, hats, etc. I'm sure there's better choices, but we're talking for the money, right? My Audio Technica's cost me $40 each (used), so that was decent.
CAD E-1000 has better frequency response, both up and down.
I could have better mics, it's just that recording for me is still a new endeavor, so I'm not hurrying to spend too much money. Just playing with it now. Most of my stuff was bought for live applications.
