Depending on what you use them for, the 603s can work quite well. Personally, I use a matched pair as drum overheads, and they sound good to me. I've read of others using them on acoustic guitar with good results.

also consider the MSH-1s over at naiant.com
there's a few clips...

i use a pair for overheads right now and i love them more than the akg c1000s i used to have...and the mc012s

Oh yeah, forgot to add that. I believe they'll be used for overhead mics.

Alright, sounds good. Thanks.

Just out of curiosity, anyone else have any input on these mics?

EDIT: So, which version of the MSH-1? the MSH-1O or the MSH-1C? or is there another one?

I have a pair of the MSH-1s which I've used as room mics in addition to my regular set-up. In fact, the drum clip that's on Naiant's site is me using only a pair the MSH-1s.

you want the omni (O) not the cardiod (d) pattern for overheads

Hi, I don't visit this board that often, but I thought I'd chime in on this one- I bought the msh-1 mics about 2 months ago- they are REALLY cool and I am going ot be buying more of his stuff. I use these on drums all the time now. My favorite placement has become over the toms but under the cymbals, so "underheads" I guess? We even use them live, same placement- just kick mic and two of these. I want his tube omnis too! If you go to my site, www.157audio.com, there are soundclips of them in this position for a live album I recently did with my band- drums were recorded with a sennheiser kick mic, sennheiser snare top, superlux snare bottom, and the naiant mics on "underheads." They don't take extrememly high spl's, so there was a little distortion when he hit the drums hard, but honestly, in this situation it was great and fit really well, and in the mix I think it sounds pleasing. Hope you enjoy it as well, I just love these mics.
