Hi, I have a low budget and am looking for a 7-8 piece drum mic kit. I have found a few really really cheap sets and am wondering if they are a good buy. I'm not look for anything fancy or top quality. Would these be ok? I kno SoundLAB are shite but would they at least do an o.k. job? If not, what would you recommend in this sort of price range?

Save up for decent over heads.... Then kick mic... Then snare mic...

If you plan on always sounding like "junk" get the cheap mics.

I would save up and buy something good that I know I'll always be able to use.

2 good overheads will sound tons better then 8 cheap mics everywhere.

i totally agree. if you get a decent pair of overheads, you can get a pretty good sound with just those, it would probably come out better than it would if you got those soundlab mics. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=live/search/detail/base_pid/271134/

those overheads are pretty good, i had them for a while. if you get something of that quality i bet you'll get a nicer sound. then evtualy get a kick mic, and then a snare mic(the shure sm 57 is a common and great snare mic) then get tom mics. it'll be worth it.

Start with a half decent pair of overheads and add mics as funds allow

A pair of SE 1as seem to be within your budget, as does the JoeMeek JM27 and other similar mics.

Personally, I'd be all over these, if I didn't already have a pair

I am really tempted to just buy them to see if they are really as bad as you say. Hey, if they are i could just sell them on to some poor sucker for a profit, lol.

Actually those M201 Beyers really are very condensor like. I've been doing a lot of experimenting with top snare mics lately and the 201 is interesting. In a way, it seems to almost give "too much" information for snare use but I'm still on the fence about it.

I bet it would be better on overheads, Mark do you use them there regularly?
