Is there a way to make drum tracks without using midi in Cubase SX 2?

I"m not sure what you're asking? Can you give a little more detail as to what it is you want to do?

In the meantime... have you thought about Dum Audio Loops? (they aren't midi)

What Im getting at is I dont have a midi setup atm.. so what do you guys suggest I use for the best sounding drums.. best bang for the buck type of thing.. I want a good drum sound.. Ive done some reading would cubase sx - battery - and drum kit from hell make a good combination?.. or does that have to be a midi setup?

Basically MIDI is the best bang for the buck. You get the most flexibility because you have something you can build on.

A cheap MIDI controller is less than $200. I've seen some for $130.

I've never tried it, but I bet you could find one for even less than that.

Someone help me out here. Since I've never done MIDI drums, is there any free software that can take MIDI input and produce a drum track for Cubase? (Surely you wouldn't want to use the Windows MIDI mapper.)

Im confused... is it possible to get good drum sound via .wav files or the like? If so what would you guys suggest I use for that in conjunction with cubase SX?

If I do go to midi controller? What would you suggest is a good entry level type, but does have good sound and options. Im running an omni studio.

I don't seem to understand what you mien?
To make a drum track you need some sort of drum machine, sampler or sound module with drum samples, in your computer, to be able to produce the drum sounds. Then you need a midi keayboard or some kind of midi controller to be able to trigger off the samples in the drum machine, sampler, e.t.c..... Once you have that then you're on your way!!
You can also make a track on a midi channel in sx and go to the key edit, then draw in the notes where you what them. (There is a drum edit as well but i prefer the key edit)
I hope you fined this useful!

I guess im totally confused about this drum track thing and midi. Do I absolutely need a midi keyboard to make drum tracks on my cpu ... I thought there was a way to just use the cpu instead?

There is!
Do you know how to make a midi track (and empty one)?

Shredboy, I don't use MIDI either to be honest, so the way I do things is pretty simple and maybe what you are after.
All I do is plug my drum machine into the soundcard/audio interface and record it onto a standard audio track, no different to if you were recording guitar, etc. Then all I do is play the drum machine, set the same tempo in Cubase as my drum machine, then hit record.
You wont get it spot on, so you'll have to then just use a bit of cut/copy/pasting/etc to get the drums how you want, but thats all there is to it. oh, and a drum machine ain't gonna cost you loads, either. I use a bog-standard Zoom model, and can get some nice sounds out of it, just adding a little bit of effects in Cubase.

This is how I do it (using Cubase SX, battery and drumkit from hell)

In cubase start a new project and go to devices > VST instruments
choose battery
in battery load up your drumkit from hell samples

back in the project.. create a new midi track.. set the drumkit from hell drum-map to the midi track (the drummap is on the dfh CD)

now draw in some blank midi with the 'draw' tool, highlight it, open the drum editor from the midi menu and bash away

also import the midi files provided on the dfh CD as an example of how to make good drum beats in MIDI

Ahhh cool guys thats more or less what i was looking for, some suggestions like that.. thanks a million.
