How do most electronic musicians make their beats? Do they have a drum machine or do they just input midi notes in a sequencer? Are these basically the same thing or at least achieving the same goal?

Some will proclaim a MPC(sequencing drum machine) has a tighter sync then a computer program like sonar, cubase, logic etc. I haven't noticed a difference personally, but a drum machine would be more portable unless you have a laptop.

I have a EMU MP-7 command station and I love it, you can do more with a standalone in my opinon, I also have Fruity loops that I use when I dont have a complicated sequence
