I am trying to expand my simple guitar/ vocal songwriting to include some rhythm elements.
Where can I learn about the basics of sequencing and midi. at least enough to make a wise decision.
The choices are many, and if you include the Keyboards like the Yamaha PSR series that offer onboard sequencing
as well as drum and bass samples to go along with a full pallet of other sounds,( being a stand alone instrument) it becomes quite frustrating.
especially since most music stores seem more interested in pushing the products with the best profit margin than
selling you what would be best for you.

Get to know some of the sales people at your local music store. They are not all evil!

Buy some strings or a new guitar strap, and take a few minutes to ask them what they play....Musicians love to talk about themselves and their music. Don't bother them on a Saturday afternoon, when 50 people are auditioning guitar amps on "11".

If you catch a salesperson on a slow day, he may actually take the time to demonstrate several choices of drum machines....Flash Cash...it helps.

Hey P-Hawk-Person:

If you live in a town with community colleges or just colleges, check with the registrar. In Grand Rapids, Mi., Junior College offers a course in electronic music/midi/etc.

So, if we have it, you might too. Check it out. Tuition at a State/Junior college is usually reasonable.
