Drum Machine recorded to the comp...

I need help getting the parts from a external drum machine into Pro Tools on the comp...the drum machine is a Dr-3 and i have no idea how to get it on the computer. With answers Treat me like i'm retarded...very detailed

Do you have a MIDI input for your computer?

Why not just send the MIDI signal into the computer, and then use the computer's internal sounds?

That will be your best bet for sound quality.

The best way to go (and I dont use protools, so if this is possible I dont know, PT has always been very weak when it comes to midi) is to just slave the drum machine to midi clock and then just record the midi notes (or sounds) when the squencer plays back (it will be syncd to the project)
 
What inputs do you have on the comp?

I get the idea you just want to record the drums onto a track in pro tools. Come out the headphones out and go into the computer's line in. I guess you could use a preamp or mixer in between the drum machine and computer, but might not be necessary - I think they pump out some good volume, but I'm not sure.

You might need to go to radio shack and get the appropriate adapter jacks or cords, depending on the size of the input/output. Usually 1/8 to 1/4 inch (or vice versa) adapters. Unless you have a 1/8" to 1/8" cord. Most people have 1/4" cords laying around, hence the need for the adapters.
