There are many ways to do this. If you have a computer, you have pretty much "unlimited" options for sequencing drums and drum loops and then sending them to your DAW - you don't need a separate machine other than a computer and your DAW.

what you will need is a loop/ sample playing program:

ACID is supposed to be good for loops, but you could just use Cool Edit or Sound Forge and just cut and paste loops into one huge sound file and then play that back..

Or You could get a program like Fruity Loops, which isn't as good for playing prerecorded loops, but it is good if you want to create your own loops out of individual drum sounds (and other instrument sounds) -

Anyway, you just download, or create loops on your computer, play them, and then send them to your DAW from the line-out of your soundcard. Your DAW probably has MIDI capabilities that you could use to trigger loops on your computer as well. That's a whole other can o' worms.

Hope this helps.
