Drum Hi-Hat Mics

I can't imagine having to mic the hats. I never mic my hats, never have had to, and probably never will. That's not to say you can't, but if you put any thought into your overhead setup and playing, you probably don't need to.
 
I mic the hats, but rarely use the track.

Another vote for the MXL 603 in that role. Nice, crisp sound with proper placement.

Anyone ever use an SM86 on hi hats or snare? I just picked one up recently and have been waiting to try it the next time we track drums.
