Hi guys,

I'm a bit of a lurker around here, I read a lot and learn a lot. Haven't contributed much as I'm still new to recording and mixing :)

So first up; thank you for the sharing of knowledge!!

Secondly, I wanted to get some feedback on my 2 new albums, listen here:
Judd Madden

(I know the mixing clinic is usually just one song... but ah well. Guess I'm looking for broader feedback - what to improve overall sound wise)

Drown is really heavy, I know there's a few metalheads around...
Float is more traditional alternative, lots of different instruments and stuff, which was really interesting to work on.

My setup changed a lot since the first album, invested in an M-Audio Fasttrack Ultra, it's been amazing!

Anyway, let me know your thoughts!

Cheers
Judd

G'day, sorry, I guess asking for feedback on 2 entire albums is a bit much! Hehe.
Ah well, I'll be more specific next time - and keep it to one song :)

If anyone does have a minute it would be great to get some thoughts on the mastering / levels of "Float"... a couple of people have said it is peaky / distorted through their systems - but fine on 99% of other systems. It's mastered to -0.1db with inter-sample clipping prevention, so I'm not exactly sure what's going on.

Thanks
Judd

If anyone is interested - I discovered that the Equaliser in iTunes, set to "BASS BOOST" was the culprit!!

Why does it effect some songs so badly? Professional mastering vs a DIY job? Probably...

Anyway I'll stop posting now, nothing sadder than a topic full of posts by the OP

:P

Yeah, maybe your original request was too open-ended for people? That's a lot of tunes!

I'm checking out Float now based on your more specific 2nd post. It sounds neither peaky nor distorted here. It does seem a bit dark and bass-heavy though to me. Cool sounds man. Pretty mellow, but with a lot of different things thrown in to keep me interested. The drums seem really verbed out, which I kind of like in this context, but a bit unusual maybe.

I listened to maybe 50% of that album and it did sound pretty consistant throughout. Well done. Maybe just pick one tune next time for us to focus on? :)
