Well today while i was recording i dropped my condenser mic and dented the back of it, dent wasnt serious enough to have moved anything inside the mic. I also checked and it seems to record fine, I just want this to be a ticking time bomb and just give out on me any minute. My question is can these things take a bit of a beating?

Don't know really. But I keep an eye out on them AT rubber bands since the 4047 took a dive out of its mount.
I figured it was a gonner but it's still going fine. :drunk:

What kind of LDC is it?
Denting the grill can change the tone of what your recording from what your use to.
What your doing is changing the area inside a tuned chamber for the element. Could be bad or it may not matter that much .....but if you can... take the grill cage off and make it right if your confident in taking it a part, if your not, ask a few questions here and someone will talk you through it.

my mic is an AT4040 im not comfortable as i dont know which way to approach. How would i bent the grill back into shape? It be great if someone could guide me. It is in the back side to not in front of the diaphragm

i also bought some extended warranty with this mic i am wondering if they will exchange it as well.

golden rule. if it's under warranty, don't take it apart.

call them up, tell them what happened, and if they say they don't cover accidental damage, then take it apart :)

yea i need to do that cause i think i did buy accidental warranty. what i need to do is open one of my old songs up solo the vocal track and record next to it to see if anything has changed to see if i should use my warranty.

Check online, it's probably a replaceable part, and relatively cheap too. If so, pick up a spare. You never know. Otherwise check the warranty. You can bend it back, but every time that you bend metal it weakens the metal, so it'll bend easier next time you drop it.

Stop doing that.

Lol i wish with all my heart i could have pervented it. This is what happens when you dont have an official studio :(

Also yea i am going to call the warranty people tomorrow i just called guitar center to make sure i had it still, i mean i reordered it and everything seems to be ok. I dont see no real difference. but it does make sense since the metal is bent and it was ment to be that way to produce the actual sound it was suppose to.

Just drop all of your microphones then you can start your trade mark signature series! :laughings:

The one good reason to have it fixed will be the resale value when and if that day should ever come ..........I might give you a dollar for a microphone with a dented grill ..........see what I mean?

true but i dont want to use up my warranty if it still works when i can really use it when something really goes wrong.

No, what you need to do is stop posting here and SEND THAT SUCKER TO THE WARRANTY PEOPLE. That's what an accident warranty is for. (I assume you posted "accidental" on, well, accident. Or, did you "accidentally" get the warranty?) Man, I could riff on that for DAYS.

When you get a new microphone that is given to you from using your warranty on the old microphone the new microphone is under a new warranty!....I think I said that right.

I think there is a difference as, accidental i think you get to use it once, and manufacture warranty is something different. I could be wrong, When i get a chance i need to call them, ive been a bit busy, as with the times i go and get off of work. Maybe around my lunch break tomorrow ill give them a ring. Only thing is i dont want to wait for the shipping process :/ maybe i can get a replacement instore.

There isn't any store that will loan you a microphone.
You can't even return one if you don't like it with in their 30 day grace period.
At least around here that is, with all the cooties going around.

O know i was thinking that maybe the warranty that i bought with it will allow me to just walk in there and simply replace it.

also i am reading that if it sounds ok everything should be fine.
