Hi,

Can anyone help me please. I have 3 audio tracks with information. One with the guitars of a song, one with some extras and one with some vocals.

I have attempted trying to put in bass but I keep getting dropouts. Why is this. Its impossible for me to record with these constant droputs.

I am using Cakewalk Home Studio 2002, which other than this problem has been superb. I am also lining directly into the software.

What equipment are you using? What computer? How much RAM? How many HDD's and what speed? What sound card? Etc.

Its 1.5ghz Intel Celeron, 256 RAM, Avance AC97 Audio Soundcard.

You should certainly get more than 3 tracks with that setup. Sound card is a bit weak though. I assume this is a laptop? Not the greatest for recording, but still should be better than what you're getting.

Try increasing your buffers or raising your latency setting (move the slider to the right)

Options -> Audio

You could also try reducing the IO buffer size. Not sure what the default is in HS, but I've had better results by reducing from 64KB to 32KB

And you didn't mention the hard drive(s) in your system. One or two? 5400RPM, 7200RPM, or if a laptop, 4200?

If you're only using 1, you should add a 2nd and store only your audio on the second drive. It should be a 7200rpm drive, ATA133 at least. If it's a laptop go either Firewire external or USB2 external.

The system should be tweaked. Take a look at suggestions at this site:

While this is a good idea,you should get way more than three tracks with this set up.I have only one drive and it does the trick with low latency,plugs and synths.
My guess is a tweaking problem.Programs running in the background etc....
