I know the soundcard sucks... and I SHOULD get a new one but meh... I cant not right now so please help me.

I have been recieving a clicking noise in Cakewalk HS: 2002 on my computer, 128mb, Celeron 1.5 etc.

The latest situation is I found a new driver for my soundcard. Realktek Avance AC97.

I downloaded and installed but the clicking was worse. So I uninstalled. My souncard is now running on some Intel(R) Integrated Audio.

*Shrugs*

Anyway, I tested a recording in Goldwave... No clicking noise! Hurrah. I rush to Cakewalk but the driver it seems is not compatible.

Therefore I am guessing I need a new driver. Can you point me to one.

I'll have a look at that site, but "Roll Back" how do I do this?

This only works on Xp. I'm at work and we run Win2000, so I'll try and do this from memory.

Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager.

Locate Sound, Video and Game Controllers and find you sound card. Right click on it and select Properties. Select the Driver tab, and choose Update Driver. Somewhere on the page that opens up should be a choice for Roll Back to previous driver.

Like I said before, Cakewalk products make use of WDM drivers to access the soundcard - Goldwave does not.

Your AC97 card does not have decent WDM drivers - period. You will not find them anywhere either because your card was never intended for low latency DAW work. I hate to break it to ya, but your soundcard right now is an absulte POS.

If you want to keep igonoring what I'm telling you, go right ahead You're problems will not go away though. I have a hard time understanding why you just don't go out and by SB Live! Value edition card. They cost less than $30US now and I doubt they are that much more expensive in the UK...

I rolled back to my Avance AC97 Audio and am now getting no sound.

Well thats a lie. It made the startup sound, and didn't make the dial up tones.

It made the "Welcome to AOL" sounds, but is not doing my IM software.

I have adjusted the master volume to max etc. no change. When it is playing sounds it is fading into the correct volume.

I.e. it starts quiet and gradually gets to the right volume.

I have tried recording in both sound recorder and goldwave and it isnt detecting my voice. Now what?
