Strat Man I had a listen to one of yours songs called "Renown".
Very nice song, one worth sending in I'd say.

...tho i am only 17..). Which is unfortunate for me because I forget melodies very easily...

Wait until you turn 40 (which I will be shortly):p

I often dream about music. I have since I was a teen. The first time I remember this I was probably 15 or 16. I had my clock radio playing all night. Bohemian Rhapsody was playing just before I woke up. I dreamt that I was singing the lead (just like Freddy of course ;)) and that all my football (US style) teammates were in the shower with me after practice singing the bu vox and all the instrument parts. It was kind of funny watching some guy open his mouth and hear the lead guitar part come out :D

I have dreamt chord changes, lyrics, riffs… and written some of them down. I often get the most songwriting ideas in the shower in the morning. I attribute that to my mind being clear and me being relaxed. Once the day starts to get going (kid, wife, job, bills…) it gets very difficult to clear my mind.

I had a great experience once for about a week after my knee surgery. I was sleeping by myself on the couch because I wasn’t supposed to climb stairs yet and I had vicodin for killing the pain. Well, I found for that week, that if I took a vicodin just a a bit before I was ready to go to sleep I would get this absolutely fabulous floating, relaxed feeling. :D I also found that my creative juices really started flowing. I have yet to get a full song out of any of this, but I had some nice ideas and hooks developed. I think the combination of the solitude and the complete and utter relaxation spurred this. I can see why people get addicted to this stuff. I had to force myself to flush them. I was enjoying them a little too much ;)

Now I have to dig up that notepad and see if I can make something of my scribbles :D

It's happened to me several times and what I have are pretty good. But even if it doesn't happen to you...When you're just waking up or dozn off, make an effort to think of something. Don't just wait for it to happen automatically.

Thinkn up melodies w/lyrics, vice versa, chords, or whatever, it's easier to do so while you're mind is totally clear. And thats when youre in the twilite moment. Let youre mind wander when youre lyng in bed at night.

keep an instrument nearby...or if you can notate, some manuscript paper

Sting wrote "Every Breath You Take" after waking up in the middle of the night. He just got out his pen and wrote it down... Billy Joel "River of Dreams"... came from a dream.
