Like a lot of others I'd like to move up with a better pre. I have GC and Sam Ash near by and for the life of I can't get a decent demo from these guys on a good mic pre. This is what I have.
2 DMP3
Aphex 107
Focusrite track master
My board is a Studiomaster P7.
I'm recording Rock (nothing too heavy) Folk, some jazz.
My main vocal mics are
AT4033
AT3035
M-Audio Solaris
Sennheiser 421
V67G
and the ever popular 319
From what I've read the Drawmer 1960 looks good as so do many others. Hate to buy without listening but I'm happy to get your views.
I like the fact it has the tube compressor too.
The resale on these (ebay) seem to be around a grand, much better than the 2K + retail price.
Who has one or worked with one. Any other thoughts for a different unit?
Help me out here.
Thanks
Tom

Um.... Go for the Drawmer 1969 from Mercenary Audio, its a refined and improved version and runs "about" the same money. For a full review look around on the net and then if you can and you have major credit card you can try before you buy, if you like it you keep it.

The Drawmer 1968 will be out in a couple of weeks... it's the compression section from the 1969 without the mic pre's or DI [with a couple of added features like the "Big" switch can be used on each individual channel when you're running the unit in 'dual mono'... and some metering stuff]. They're going to run $2,150 USD... which for compressor of this kind of quality is a bargain and a half [if I do say so myself].

FWIW... the 1969 came to be because I thought the 1960 was a flaming piece of shit... here's the whole story http://www.mercenary.com/19vactubcomm.html

Best of luck with your search.

Thank you for the advice. After I posted I read on your site about the 1969 you have.
I'll look into the other units you mentioned.
