I'm trying to record MIDI in Sonar from my DR-5 for the first time. From all indications, the DR-5 is not transmitting any MIDI messages. I figure I must be missing some arcane setting, but I can't figure out what it is. Anyway, thanks for any help.

Your connections are fine and there is no sync issue from what I gathered so nothing needs to be changed there.

My guess is that you're using the Drum track on the DR-5. If so, make sure you are receiving on channel 10. Track 1 - 3 on the DR-5 transmit on corresponding MIDI channels, but Roland/Boss like to use 10 for drums for some reason.

Hope this helps.

Well, Sonar is set up to receive "MIDI Omni" or any channel. I can't figure this out.

I never used the DR-5 as a controller before, so before I put my foot in my mouth I tried it with my set up and it works fine. The only other thing that would cause no MIDI to be transmitted (other than the drum track issue) would be that you have the MIDI Thru switched ON on the DR-5. This needs to be turned OFF, I got no output at all with it on.

That's pretty much all I can think of.
