Mishappen,

Yes you can do what you are asking about exporting to individual tracks, however before going to the trouble make sure you explore everything you can do within the DR-008.

There is a nice mini mixer in the dr-008 which should allow you to do many of the things that you would accomplish by exporting separate tracks.

I downloaded the dr-008 manual from the web and it helped me a great deal.

You are in the right place now... concentrate on the drum maps then jump over to the dr-oo8 manual.

The other thing is, if you do not like you kick sound, in dr-008 you can always just import a new wav file that has the sound you like... Or you can take the wav file out and process it an reload it.

dana,

midi, dxi's, drum maps, they are all based on using the numbers programmed in to map that particular key/note to generate a certain sound. They are all connected, as you suggested.

I sent you a pm with that chart, and an offer to pm me or whatever to help more WHILE you're trying to do it.

See ya,
Kirstin

Honestly, I think once you get the drum map set up, this way will be EASIER than your fruity loops method. I've never done it, but it sounds more inconvenient than this method with the dr-008.

Yes, I second the read the dr-008 manual, and visit their website forums, because there are some people with issues that are addressed well on there. Another good place to look is the newsgroups...I was checking out news.cakewalk.net and there is a Sonar section that had many posts with the title dr-008 in it and some common problems that people will tend to have initially.

Hope that helps.

this will be easier than fruity loops once the drum map is set up.

Hey, You guys are awesome!! Thanks forall your input!

Is the downloadable manual different than the pdf dr8 manual that came packaged with sonar 2.2xl? I looked at it and it looks different, just wondering if it has different info.

As soon as I get a chance I will try all this new info. I run a business, have 5 children, 1 wife and 13 chickens, which keep me very busy. :)

again thanks

A lot of ways to skin the cat. You can hear a very rough drum beat used during composition here: http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=2999&alid=653 The track with the dr-008 is Daytime Dream (go easy on me, the song is still being composed.)

Jdier, Those drums sound real to me. I love the sound of that song! Real down to earth.

It encourages me to know what can be done inside of Sonar.

Do you know why my "media player" will play for about 30 seconds and then stop, then start, then stop, then start, then stop? I am only connected @ 24k and I hit the small play arrow on the song.

Thanks

dana

If any of you need a Sonar- Drum Map for the Drumkit From Hell, you should all talk to kgirl! She made me one, that sweet girl... :D

:D

Jeez Moskus...just offer up my services, why dontchya? Just kidding. I actually made Dana a drum map for the dr-008 kit he's using, so I've yet to hear if it worked or not.

Dana, your connection is just too slow for streaming sound. When listening at Nowhereradio I would suggest you download the song (I think that is an arrow pointed down.)

Yes I will download one.

Hey is the kit you are using in that song one that came with the dr-008 or did you put your own kit together with some other wav files.

Those are all free samples that I have downloaded off the web over the years. I think the hi hats may be the wav files that came with fruity loops.

Here is a short list of some sites you might want to check. (You may want to look into getting an auto downloader or page vacuum type freeware program to make it easier. Also look for larger zipped files that have all the sounds in them.)

http://spec.ch.man.ac.uk/~ashley/drums.html
http://www.fortunecity.com/tinpan/funkadelic/808/perc.html
http://www.audio360.com/freeSamples.jsp
http://bigsamples.free.fr/d_kit.html
http://remixer.com/downloads.htm
http://www.samplez.de/index.php?active=bannertausch
http://www.kidnepro.com/FramerSC.magi
http://www.dooleydrums.com/
http://soundcavern.free.fr/

This is just a quick list I pulled together today. I found that while I have downloaded about 800 mb of drumsamples, I only use about 35 different samples... but again, I am using them for composing with no intention of ever using these sounds or sampled drums for finished product.)

Hope this helps.

Yes. But not Sonar Drum Maps... ;)

What is an auto down loader and a page vacuum, and where would I get one.

The TR-808 and the TR-909, are they drum machines? Looking through samples pages, I see these mentioned alot.

Here are some autodownloaders:

http://download.com.com/3000-2071-10164569.html?tag=lst-0-5
http://download.com.com/3000-2071-10190914.html?tag=lst-0-10
http://download.com.com/3000-2071-10206939.html?tag=lst-0-14

And Yes, the TR-808 and 909 are older drum machines.
